TOUR CHAMPIONSHIP
Clutch Pro Tour......

MONDAY 17th – THURSDAY 20th
OCTOBER 2022

MONDAY
TOURNAMENT PREP DAY 1

FITNESS
Arrived at the course at 12:30 and had a little look around. I started with a full body warm up after a 3 hour drive, this was to get everything warmed up and activated before I went to hit balls.

PRACTICE
I started on the range and worked through the bag on technical checks, the swing felt good and I hit the ball very well.

SHORT GAME
I then did short game and bunkers to get a feel for the greens and sand. I went around the green hitting all types of shots and then finished with a 9 hole total footage game, I scored 40ft again and holed one

PUTTING
I finished practice for the day with putting, using mirror and start line drills to start. Followed by some aim point calibration inside 10ft and I worked on green reading and hole outs.

Playing 18 holes tomorrow so this was a good little session to get a feel for the course conditions before I play.

TUESDAY
TOURNAMENT PREP DAY 2

PUTTING
Arrived at the course at 9:00am. I started with some speed drills on putting, followed by start line and checking my green reading

FITNESS
Warm up in the lockeroom, focused on leg activation and rotations, this links to my swing and gets my body ready to hit balls.

RANGE
I spent 45 mins warming up through the bag, nothing to crazy. Small checks on technical but everything felt very good.
Finished with some short game just before I teed off to get the feels of this.

PRACTICE ROUND
I played 18 holes, the weather was perfect. I was focused on my targets / clubs off the tee and then around the greens, where pin locations are. Also a big focus on green speeds and breaks to these pins. I feel like I have a good strategy for each hole and where I need to be in position.

I did some small putting work after the round, just working on holes outs, this was very good.

WEDNESDAY
CLUTCH TOUR CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND 1

I arrived at the course at 7:45am ahead of my 9:28am tee time, got my stuff ready and signed in.

WARM UP – PUTTING 20mins
The first thing I do for the day is get the speed of the greens, so I go through my speed drill until I feel this is good. I then do short putts start line and hole out drills.

WARM UP – FITNESS 10 mins
I go through a full body activation warm up, rotations and speed to get my body ready to hit balls

WARM UP – RANGE 30 mins
I went through the bag warming up, today I did even number irons. My warm up today on the range wasn’t the best, struggled with ball striking a little.

WARM UP – SHORT GAME 10 mins
Just a variety of shots in short game to get the feels going, a mixture of more flop shots, bunkers and chip n run shots.

ROUND REVIEW

Score – 74(+3)
Driving accuracy – 78%
GIR – 66.7%
Scrambling – 50%
Putts – 35 (three 3 putts)

It was a chilly and windy day, gusting up to 25mph which made some holes very tricky to judge for distances. This however despite my warm up was the best part today, tee to green I was virtually flawless. Hit a lot of great drives and solid iron shots into the greens. Today I struggled most on the greens to which I had three 3 putts and my hole outs inside 6ft was only 50%.

POST ROUND PRACTICE
I did an hour putting session after I finished, I checked through fundamentals and I picked up on my set up being off, I wasn’t quite getting my face alignment correct and aiming left. I did a start line drill with my mirror to help this, followed by a hole out game.

THURSDAY
CLUTCH TOUR CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND 2

ROUND REVIEW

Score – 71(E)
Driving accuracy – 43%
GIR – 72%
Scrambling – 60%
Putts – 31 (no 3 putts)

It was a very wet round where it rained for virtually the whole round! At one point on the 8th we thought play would stop because a couple of the greens were flooding and we had to squidgy our own putts!

However I handled the conditions very well, in a way I find it easier because all I’m focusing on is 1. Staying dry 2. Hitting the next shot so I’m very much in the present moment a lot.
I felt like I hit ball the just as good as yesterday, I just had a couple of tee shots that were the wrong side of the fairway/ just in semi rough that was blocked out by trees.

However the most pleasing part of my round was my putting… my speed control was exceptional all day and I holed a couple of nice par saves. Most importantly the 7ft downhill right to left on the 18th! This was very satisfying after the work I put in after the round yesterday.

DP WORLD TOUR SCHOOL
Finished 22nd in the Tour Championship, more than good enough to qualify if I was competing in the DP World Tour school stage 1 and 2. Click on the leaderboard image link above to see the full leaderboard.

TOURNAMENT SUMMARY
I finished T22 for the event and 8 shots off the lead. The course was long and tight with trees so I was very pleased with how I performed tee to green, both my driving accuracy and GIR stats being some of my best this season!

This is even more encouraging because of the wind we had in round 1 then the rain in round 2. I was also pleased with how I handled my poor putting performance after round 1 because I improved this for round 2 after the practice session I did post round 1.
This is my last event of 2022 and I’m very happy with where my game is at. I’m looking forward to putting in the practice over the winter to get ready for 2023.

Look forward to seeing you soon
